Forum Title: Removing bottom sash from old wooden double-hung and spring balanced window.
No tilt mechanism or take-out clips. I assume I have to slide one of the jambs out, but they seem way too brittle for that. Also they are spring balanced, I assume it's a coil type. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

So this is under the porch? If so I understand your comment regarding not a water problem. Is it possible to remove the material from the ceiling, install the window with proper flashing then reinstall?

Thanks very much! It did tip out from the top by pressing on the jambs and it was pretty much just hooked onto the springs

Sounds good. Couldn't be sure if there was any spring on those jambs without being there... glad you got it.
